The smoothie you should be having after your workouts

Good morning lovelies,

So I don’t know about you but the warm weather completely transforms my diet. Normally after my morning workout, I’m all about porridge, bircher muesli and chia puddings. But lately all I’ve been craving is something really light but energising and for me that’s a super food smoothie.

I’ve had a lot of fun trialling different smoothie recipes, but for some reason I just keep coming back to this one. I think it’s the fact that it’s super hydrating, which makes it perfect pre or post workout.  It’s full of super foods, from the antioxidant boosting berries to the sweet cinnamon and caramel-y maca. Of course it’s also packed with protein and lots of vitamins and minerals, thanks to the addition of spirulina (which is perfect if you’re plant-based like me) and with the help of a frozen banana it gets transformed into a creamy thick smoothie that’s super scrummy and perfect after a hard workout.

If you ask me, what more could you want, after a tough workout when you’re tired, sweaty and in need of energy. Plus, I also like knowing that it’s not my typical green smoothie (which take a little longer to make) and therefore I don’t have to stand in the kitchen chopping up lots of different fruits and vegetables. I mean let’s be honest, even I like simple and easy after a morning workout.

So why not give it a go. I’m sure most of you have these ingredients in your pantry. If not, you can always get creative and substitute with similar ingredients that you have at hand. I’ve been known to add bee pollen, avocado and lemon to this one, but that’s just me.

So get blending lovelies and let this smoothie take your health to the next level, give you lots of energy and leave you feel fantastic.  Enjoy x

My Berry Green Smoothie

Note: The chia seeds will swell up and absorb some of the liquid so if you’re not going to drink it right away I suggest leaving out the chia seeds and adding them at least 1-2 minutes before drinking.

Serves 1

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of water or coconut water
  • ½ cup of berries (fresh or frozen)
  • ½ tsp of cinnamon
  • 1 tsp of chia seeds
  • ½ – 1 tsp of maca powder
  • 1 tsp of spirulina powder
  • ½ frozen banana

Method:

Place everything in your blender for 30 seconds or until smooth and creamy. Drink immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge for 1-2 days.
